Ayen, ecotourism in Corrèze

There's an old saying in Ayen: "You come here and you come back, because you live well here"... in addition to its rich rhymes, this phrase has another quality: it's true!

We invite you to visit the media library, which is Brive Tourisme's tourist information centre. They will have brochures and valuable information at your disposal.

Location and history of Ayen en diagonale

Ayen is located on the Yssandonnais plateaux, 20km north-west of Brive-la-Gaillarde. The village is set on a hillside, with the primitive village of "Ayen-bas" at the foot of the limestone hill, where a château and some fine buildings still stand. Then there is the village halfway up the slope, which grew with the advent of the railway. The summit of the puy is clear and an orientation table allows you to see the most beautiful village of Saint-Robert towards the Dordogne, as well as the Vézère valley and the Monédières massif to the east. From this vantage point, when conditions are right, you can even see the Auvergne volcanoes. Three heritage trails link the three levels of the puy d'Ayen.

A pioneer in sustainable development

Green Resort among other accolades

Ayen has held the Station Verte label for a very long time, and was taking an ecological and sustainable approach long before it became commonplace. A ZéroPhyto municipality before it was compulsory, a Maison des Services Au Public (public services centre) before the Maisons France Services network was created, a conservatory orchard, a sustainable development centre... an inventory of these initiatives would be tedious, but it reveals the commitment that characterises this little corner of France.

Accessible walks and natural areas

The town council and local associations, in conjunction with its neighbours Perpezac-le-blanc, Saint-Robert, Vars sur Roseix and Rosiers de Juillac, maintain a number of beautiful hiking trails that wind their way through the 4 corners of the valley, crossing "cols" and offering magnificent views...
A little bonus: motorised vehicles are not allowed.

Local produce and restoring the heritage of taste

On the route of the Limousin apple and the Périgord AOC walnut, Ayen cultivates its taste for good ingredients produced locally in a short circuit... What's more, its famous summer Farmers' Market (every Thursday evening) combines musical entertainment and delicious tastings... and here again, it is one of the most emblematic and oldest in the Brive region.

Where to sleep soundly in Ayen

A holiday village nestles in the hills above the village. Previously linked to the Village Vacances Famille (VVF), it will change operator and undergo a major renovation in 2022... unfortunately it will be closed to the public for the entire season. However, you may be able to find a natural campervan site or other accommodation in or near the village.

A whole host of events!

The calendar of events includes a number of emblematic events which, like the weather for farmers, punctuate the year for residents and visitors alike...
