Our weekend favourites

This weekend, the All Saints’ Day holidays are in full swing across the Brive area, with a touch of autumn and Halloween in the air. On the programme from 23 to 25 October: children’s activities, creative workshops, escape games, traditional markets and shows. The highlights will be all about food and festivities, with Halloween at the Jardins de Colette in Varetz, the chestnut walk in Saint-Pardoux-l’Ortigier and the autumn festival in Vars.

Friday 23 October

Today’s fairs and/or markets: in Allassac all morning on the Place de la République and in Juillac from 4.30 pm to 7 pm (in the car park, opposite Vival).
Workshop for young people: calligraphy and illumination at the Cultural Centre, Brive-la-Gaillarde, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Led by Flora Aubrun
. Duration: 3 hours – For children aged 8 and over.
Tour of the EDF Saillant Dam in Voutezac at 10.00
am. Meet in front of the hydroelectric power station (on the Voutezac side)
. Children aged 8 and over (under 8s not permitted). Please wear walking shoes.

Weekend escape games:
> Special Egypt-themed escape game at the Médiathèque du Centre (Brive), from 1.00 pm to 1.30 pm. For children aged 6 and over; book by calling 05 55 18 17 50.

> ‘The Adventurers of the Lost Staff’ in Donzenac. 19–23 October: 9.30 am – 11.00 am – 1.30 pm – 3.00 pm – 4.30 pm. For ages 10 and over; children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

> Escape game at Nature Evasion in Jugeals Nazareth from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Information on 06 16 99 07 95.

> Operation Freedom: “Decode, transmit, create!” at the Edmond Michelet Museum (Brive). For ages 10 and over. Bookings on 05 55 74 06 08.

> Special Halloween Murder Party at the Médiathèque du Centre, at 6.30 pm. Please bring a pen and a torch (the game will take place in the dark).

Saturday 24 October

Discover Brive’s main market on Place de la Guierle and beneath the Halle Georges Brassens.
Another market is also held on Place Thiers on Saturday mornings (in front of the Halle Gaillarde).
Exhibition: ‘The Brive Book Fair through its presidents and posters’ at the Brive town centre media library from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm.
Come and see the portraits of former presidents and the posters from previous editions.
Self-guided tours are available during the media centre’s opening hours.

Halloween events:

- “Thrills at the Lighthouse” organised by the Brive Tourist Office from 9.50 am to 1.20 pm and from 3.20 pm to 6.20 pm. - At
the Jardins de Colette: face painting in Varetz from 2 pm to 6 pm (also on Sunday).
-At the Château de Pompadour: children’s activities in Arnac-Pompadour, for children aged 3 and over (also on Sunday).

Sanctuary of the Caves of St Anthony: The 25th Hour of the Sanctuary Towns. Illuminations for the 25th Hour from 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm
From 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm: at the Sanctuary of the Caves of St Antoine, open your eyes, listen carefully and breathe deeply.
Activities
: - Night-time trail walk (‘by headtorch’), open to all.
- Traditional dance on the esplanade in front of the caves.
- Storytelling performance by Brother

At 8.00 pm: the bells will ring in unison with those of the other Sanctuary Towns of France.

Sunday 25 October

There are numerous markets in the morning, including the Objat market and the Malemort market. See our ‘Markets throughout the week’ section.
Chestnut walk in St Pardoux l’Ortigier from 7.30 am.
Rando St Pa invites you to come and explore the paths and trails of the commune of Saint-Pardoux-l’Ortigier and the surrounding areas. Choose from three routes: 9, 12 and 22 km. Start at your own convenience. €8 per person – Free for under-12s.

Vars Autumn Festival in Vars-sur-Roseix from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.
Apple juice making and sale – bring your own bottles – as well as black pudding, cheeses and crêpes (plain and chestnut). Craft exhibition and local produce market.
Sunday afternoon board games at the Salle Dumazaud in Brive from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Come and enjoy a friendly get-together playing board games. Free entry.
Theatre: ‘Rester dans la course’ at the Brive Cultural Centre at 4.00 pm.
The trials and tribulations of a woman in her forties who candidly reveals her struggles to keep up. Presented by the Compagnie La sœur de Shakespeare.
