Guided tour of Brive, its history, its stories, its heritage

Brive has been a crossroads of the Corrèze since prehistoric times, and the town, which was founded in the 5th century around the shrine of Saint Martin the Spaniard, took advantage of this crossroads location to develop. A fortified town since at least the 12th century, it played on alliances with powerful neighbouring lords and reversed allegiances with France and the Duke of Aquitaine (King of England). A stroll through the streets will reveal fine Renaissance and classical architecture, and the collegiate church of Saint-Martin offers fine examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture.

Having become a private estate following its sale as national property during the Revolution and having belonged to several families, the site was not open to visitors until 2023. Visiting the site is now an exceptional opportunity, following the new owner's authorisation to open it to the public.

Turenne, a small, peaceful village today, was first known in the 8th century when the troops of Pepin the Short attacked its castle. Discover this rich history as you wander through the streets of this iconic white limestone village, overlooked from the cliff top by the ruins of the castle.
