What to do when it rains
Is it raining? Don't worry! The Gaillard region is ready to keep young and old busy, even in bad weather...
Brive and the surrounding area are full of must-see places to visit, whatever the weather. From museums to chasms, cinema and shopping: you've got it covered! There's no question of giving in to the gloom or staying cooped up at home...
Museums and local know-how
In the heart of the city of Brive, visit one of our lively museums to learn something while staying dry. The Musée Labenche d'Art et Histoire awaits you to discover the town of Brive as you've never seen it before! There's also the Edmond Michelet museum, where you can find out all about the Resistance and deportation during the Second World War.
A few kilometres away, you can discover many other museums and ecomuseums on prehistory, local know-how, etc. Visit the Museums and ecomuseums page.
Epicureans will love the visits to the distilleries, where you can discover their ancestral know-how. The Distillerie Denoix in Brive town centre and the Distillerie Louis Roque in Souillac each have a small museum retracing their history.
Visit a castle or abbey
Noble families have lived in Corrèze, Lot and Dordogne. Their homes, sometimes richly furnished, are an opportunity to step back in time and discover the history of the region. Discover our châteaux to visit.
We're also lucky enough to have a beautiful Cistercian abbey just a stone's throw from Brive, in Aubazine. It is even said that Coco Chanel, who lived there, was inspired by the motifs in the stained glass windows to create her signature of two intertwined "Cs".
Other religious buildings are well worth a visit. We invite you to consult our section on sanctuary towns and religious heritage.
Discover caves and chasms
Learn to tell the difference between caves and chasms, both of which are found in our region. And a word of advice: you'll be safe from the rain on these visits, but not from the chilly temperatures. So don't forget your jacket before setting off to visit the caves and chasms.
Getting closer to nature in a sheltered environment
This mission is far from impossible. You can discover reptiles, freshwater fish and thousands of insects! See our section: theme parks and animal parks.
Escape games, mazes and laser games.....
These very trendy activities are enjoyed in small groups. In Brive and the surrounding area, we are lucky enough to have several areas dedicated to these activities. Younger children will love the indoor amusement parks, where they can have fun whatever the weather. Check out our indoor activities.
Taking care of yourself
Take advantage of a rainy day to take a break and look after yourself. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation with a treatment, access to the SPA or combine virtual reality with relaxation. In short, there's no shortage of ideas. Check out our top addresses.
The shops
Take refuge in Brive's boutiques. A bit of shopping is always good for morale... In the town centre or in the shopping areas, big names or small shops: there's something for everyone! A visit to the 100% gaillard boutique is a must for fun, trendy local clothing.
Solo or group activities
There's nothing like some great activities to warm up and forget the rain. Cinemas (CGR or Rex), theatre, bowling, ice rink, indoor swimming pool in Brive or Objat.... YES, you can find all this in the Pays Gaillard! As you can see, there's plenty to do...
