A preserved territory
You've heard of the saying: "If we're going to live happily, let's live hidden"? We are fortunate to live in unspoilt landscapes with remarkable biodiversity. Our countryside is quiet but not deserted, and our towns have all the amenities you could wish for, close to unspoilt natural sites. Our natural areas are ideal for nature-based sporting activities. Our region is full of picturesque villages, Romanesque churches and fountains.... You can discover them on our heritage trails, or by consulting our cabinet of curiosities. And if you want to take in the sights, we've put together a list of our best viewpoints. Admire, breathe and you'll be rejuvenated!
Nature-friendly activities
Corrèze is a real natural gem, with its breathtaking landscapes, lush green forests and refreshing rivers. So we owe it to ourselves to preserve it by choosing activities that don't have a negative impact on the environment. You can enjoy a wide range of activities, including canoeing, kayaking , mountain biking, road cycling, climbing, swimming in natural environments and, of course, hiking. You'll love it!
Eating well
We're proud to share our gastronomy, a blend of influences from the South West, Limousin and Auvergne. Our many restaurants will give you the chance to experience this promise, often with proposals to suit all tastes and dietary requirements (meat-free, for example). Local farms take great care to preserve the reputation of the quality of their produce. They rely on mixed farming and the rearing of emblematic products of great renown. More and more of our farmers are adopting highly reasoned practices or converting to "organic", which confirms our confidence in the food from Corrèze, Périgord or Quercy. So here, choose the market, not the ultra-processed! Just visit one of the many weekly markets, like the one in Brive-La-Gaillarde, to get an idea of the richness of our local produce. And if you want to buy 'responsibly', we can give you the addresses of producers whom you can buy directly from. Buying local means supporting local producers and reducing your carbon footprint by cutting down on transport. It's a win-win situation, isn't it?
Soft mobility
Unforgettable holidays without too much carbon, yes it's possible, it's called slow tourism! If you go green, it's to reconnect with nature and take the time to discover a region. A number of initiatives have been taken to enable locals and visiting tourists alike to get around while limiting their carbon footprint: a shuttle bus will take you to the 2 leisure activity spots (Causse Lake and Saillant), bicycles are available in the area, and a greenway means you can get around safely whether you're on foot or by bike. Not forgetting the many hiking trails in all the communes. And to help you even further, Brive Tourisme offers tours using public transport. And if you're a keen cyclist, we've got turnkey weekends for you to discover our Gascony nuggets.
Meeting the Gaillards
As you meet us, you'll also see that hospitality is part of who we are, deeply rooted in our curiosity about visitors... Open-mindedness and the pleasure of sharing are also part of the foundations of sustainable development. Brive Tourisme has created the PoHTes (tourist hospitality points) to encourage exchanges. These are local businesses (bakeries, coffee, newsagents, etc.) that welcome you "into their homes" and give you tips on discovering their region and their secret corners.... Our local people are generous and some of them offer to share all their knowledge with you on enlightened tours: the Musta'chut. During the summer months, they offer free tours on a variety of themes: local flora and fauna, local know-how, small heritage, etc.
A committed region
Eco-responsibility is at the heart of Brive Tourisme's strategy, with a number of initiatives: eco-labelling of the accommodation it manages, commitment to its 100% Gaillarde Boutique (100% organic cotton, local collaborations, etc.), eco-design of its websites, promotion of local players(portraits of Gaillarde women), etc. Our local authorities are also sensitive to the issue of sustainability, and some have been awarded the "green station" label. And to help you be "responsible but not guilty", we're offering you the chance to take the Gaillard oath!
Advice that can resonate!
If you're looking for a truly eco-responsible holiday, we'd like to suggest this selection of sites, service providers and events that we think are a good match.
