It's a Gallic tradition to celebrate new garlic on 1 May!

A little history on the origins of May 1st! This day, which has been a paid public holiday since 1947, originated in 1886 with demonstrations by American workers demanding an 8-hour working day.

So, on this public holiday, many associations organise snack bars in the villages around Brive. And these snacks celebrate garlic and spring onions.

One of the best-known examples is the "Fête de l'ail nouveau" in Larche, where the traditional morning snack is offered to all, accompanied by rillettes and fromage blanc, followed by a giant garage sale that has been attracting large crowds for several years.

We suggest you put together your own 1st May snack!
