fishing
It's the emblematic fruit of Voutezac, a village in the Vézère valley!
Among all our fruit and vegetables, here is a local product full of energy. There's something for everyone: yellow peaches, white peaches, flat peaches, white nectarines, yellow nectarines, blood peaches and even vine peaches. As well as tasting delicious and sweet, peaches are low in calories. There's no reason to deprive yourself!
The history of fishing in Voutezac
In addition to the wide range of products on offer, fishing has a real history rooted in our land. In the past, the area was used mainly for growing vines and tobacco.
In the mid-1950s, René Jarrigue planted the first peach trees. Other farmers, sensing an interesting market, also launched into production. Nearly fifteen of them went on to market this juicy fruit.
Unfortunately for the peach, it wasn't the only fruit to attract farmers' interest... the apple was also very much in evidence, and it didn't take long for it to steal the limelight. As a result, there are now only 5 peach farms left in the commune.
The peach festival
Despite everything, the fervour surrounding this fruit continues thanks to the Voutezac Peach Festival, which takes place in July. There is also a brotherhood: Les goûteurs de pêches de Voutezac. Around thirty members defend the history of this fruit and their local area.
