The waterfalls of Gimel

In Gimel, there are three waterfalls on the river La Montane: the 45-metre-high Grand Saut, the 38-metre-high Redole and the 60-metre-high Queue de Cheval. In total, the Gimel waterfalls are 143 metres high. Abel Hugo, Victor Hugo's brother, described them in his book La France pittoresque in 1883.

For keen hikers, there are a number of signposted routes along the waterfalls in the Parc Vuillier, named after the painter Gaston Vuillier who conceived the idea of creating the park between 1893 and 1899.
Appropriate footwear is essential for descending the slope leading to the waterfalls. Allow an hour to walk around the park.
