Heading for the south of Correze and the Viscounty of Turenne
Head for the south of Correze, where the red sandstone settles in and the listed villages follow one another!
The village of Jugeals-Nazareth
Before arriving in Turenne, stop off at the 14th-century street village of Jugeals-Nazareth, where a very special story is told on interpretation panels (the kibbutz). Must-sees in this village include the church of Saint-Gilles de Jugeals, the church of Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth and the Gallic bridge.
The Fage chasm
Then it's on to the Romanesque church of Noailles and a visit to the La Fage chasm, one of the most beautiful caves in the region. The programme includes a wealth and density of concretions, a palaeontological site and a colony of bats that can be seen at certain times of the year. You'll come away amazed.
Turenne, Collonges-la-Rouge and Curemonte
We'll then head off to discover three of France's Most Beautiful Villages: Turenne, a hilltop village with a collegiate church and a dismantled castle housing the "Garden of the Great Navigators"; the red sandstone village of Collonges-la-Rouge and Curemonte. So many beautiful things! A diversion to the Neanderthal Man Museum with a stop at the Branceilles wine cellar. Then off to Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne to see the Benedictine abbey church with its Romanesque tympanum.
Aubazine and its religious heritage
Return to Aubazine to discover the Cistercian abbey where Gabrielle Chanel spent part of her childhood. Take the opportunity to walk along the monks' canal, built in the 12th century to supply the abbey with water.
