Not everyone builds castles in Spain, and some even prefer to build them in Brive or the surrounding area!

Noble families from the Brive region have left us vestiges of their past: the Dukes of Noailles and the Viscounts of Turenne all lived in châteaux. Some of them can even be visited, and for those that don't offer this possibility, let yourself be charmed by discovering them, visible at the bend in the paths or tracks.

Many of the châteaux in the Dordogne and the Lot also offer a wealth of historical sights and discoveries.

Tip Dordogne, land of castles

A family looks out over the countryside from the top of Castelnaud castle in the Dordogne

Just as there are mushroom beds, so there are castle beds. The Dordogne is one of these. Between the 13th and 15th centuries, castles sprang up all along the valley. As they were solidly built, they are still there. Massive for some, slender for others, there's something for everyone. You can experience the life of a château on a walk through the Dordogne.
