Hiking and walking
Do you enjoy hiking, on your own, with family or friends? On foot, horseback or mountain bike? If so, you've come to the right place: 800km of trails in the Brive-la-Gaillarde region.
A new walking guide
In collaboration with Editions Glénant, Brive Conurbation is unveiling two invaluable sesames for lovers of walking and nature: a topo guide and an Itinérance map. These new products come at just the right time to highlight the outdoor activities that are such a major attraction of this destination.
This booklet presents 26 short walks, perfect for family outings or strolls lasting a few hours. For adventurers looking for a more substantial challenge, the "Loop of the Causse" offers a magnificent escape through the region's characteristic landscapes. The 11 major loops and the "Chemin de St-Jacques" variant from Brive to Turenne will satisfy long-distance enthusiasts in search of spirituality and personal challenge.

Hiking: a sporting and responsible activity!
- Blend in with nature and discover the flora and fauna that surrounds us in this Natura 2000 area of the Causse.
- Respect this natural wealth and adopt eco-gestures: stay on marked paths, don't pick plants, collect any rubbish, etc.
- Meet the local producers, such as the cheese-makers around Lac du Causse and the wine-growers at Le Saillant.
Hiking to discover the Brive region
Hiking is undoubtedly the best way to discover our beautiful environment. Situated at the crossroads of regions with a wide variety of climates, the Gaillard region is perfect for all types of hiker. Whatever your level and whatever your preferred terrain, lace up your hiking boots and awaken the Gaillard in you!
Walks for all levels
Are you looking for short, easy and accessible walks? The Brive region offers a wide variety of paths and tracks suitable for family walks.
Are you an experienced hiker looking for longer, more demanding routes that can be combined to your heart's content? Although you won't find the altitudes of France's great mountain ranges, our region does offer some fairly fun and challenging routes, with an interesting cumulative difference in altitude and some nice "ass kicking" and sloping sections to keep you happy!
A rich signposted network
In the Brive region, you can take advantage of a rich network of signposted itineraries, ideal for all kinds of hiking experiences:
- accompanied or self-guided;
- family, sporting or themed - to suit all tastes!
Make Pays Gaillard a "made-to-measure hiking region": choose the itinerary that suits you best, follow routes with a wide variety of claddings, beautiful landscapes and panoramas, and hike to your heart's content!
Nordic walking in Gaillarde land
Nordic walking is an outdoor sport that originated in Scandinavia (so the association with cross-country skiing is anything but coincidental!). It combines fundamental endurance training with upper-body muscle strengthening. The Brive region has a natural and architectural heritage that is perfectly suited to this sport!
The "Nordic Walking in Corrèze" association, based in Donzenac, offers weekly outings to discover and practise the discipline... So get your sticks!
Bon plan A love of Causse
Here you are at the summit of the aptly-named Mont Pelé. Well done! Although it's not exactly an Everest, the highest point on the Causse allows you to admire the village of Chasteaux and the hanging vineyards below. Bear in mind that the ewes you come across on your hike provide the exquisite milk from which the best cheeses are made, and you'll be glad to take one out of your bag in case you get hungry...
On the other side of the Lac du Causse, take your little ones to explore the Plateau du Fournet: the little world of the Causse awaits you there, with its cicadas, crickets, stunted oaks and fragrant violets... On arrival, Notre-Dame-des-Champs, perched on an enormous cone of pierced stones, towers over the Causse corrézien.
