We'll take you on a tour of the splendid views from Turenne, a sublime village listed as one of France's Most Beautiful Villages.

The Château de Turenne, a must-see!

The castle is situated on a hill on the impassable border of the Midi-Pyrénées region. The centrepiece of the village, the heart and raison d'être of Turenne, is the castle! It is to Turenne what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. It's a bit like "Brive" and "Gaillarde" - they're inseparable!

Once you've climbed the village, you arrive at the château, which stands at the top of a 20m cliff, and it's here, in the middle of the formal garden, that you realise you've gained height... a lot of height! Just a few more steps and you're there, perched in the sky at the top of the Tour César.

It's a magical view, dominating the whole valley, the panorama as far as the eye can see. To the east, you can almost see the Auvergne farmer making his cheese, to the south, the gates of the Ville Rose and its barges plying the Garonne, and to the west, the Périgord with the Lascaux caves.

You feel free, and when you know the history of Turenne it's a nice touch.
