Collonges-La-Rouge

The first village to join the association of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, Collonges-la-Rouge is a jewel of medieval streets, castles and fortified towers. Set in limestone near a red sandstone fault, this atypical village bears witness to a 60-million-year leap in history, from the first geological era to the secondary era.

Turenne

A small, peaceful village today, Turenne was already well known in the 8th century when the troops of Pepin the Short attacked its castle. During the 10th century, it became the seat of a viscounty which, despite the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion (Viscount Henri I de la Tour d'Auvergne was one of the leading figures of the Protestant party), remained independent of the Kingdom of France until 1738. Discover this rich history as you wander through the streets of this iconic white limestone village, overlooked from the top of its cliff by the ruins of the Château de la Tour de Auvergne.
