Pumpkins and other gourds
The pumpkin is the star vegetable of autumn. It's in the spotlight at Halloween, but it's not just a decorative element. Its slightly sweet flesh is ideal for soups, purées, gratins and even desserts.
Everything you need to know about cucurbits
Pumpkins belong to the Cucurbitaceae family, along with pumpkins, pumpkins and butternut squash. Rich in fibre and vitamin A, pumpkins can be used to make a wide range of recipes, each more comforting than the last, as the cold weather sets in. Pumpkin and other pumpkins can brighten up any starter, main course or dessert.
How do I store a pumpkin?
Once you've cleaned your pumpkin, slice it to make it easier to peel, then cut it into small cubes that you can freeze straight away.
You can also store it after cooking it into pieces and making a soup or purée. You can then package it in small airtight containers and freeze them.
