Ciné-club : “Mission”
ALLASSAC
In the middle of the 18th century, in the vast Brazilian forest, a Spanish Jesuit founds an evangelizing mission on the lands of the Guarani Indians. He is followed by a former slave hunter in search of redemption. The mission succeeds in turning the Indians into accomplished musicians, singers and instrument makers (music by Ennio Morricone). Despite this dazzling human and spiritual success, the Papacy decides to scuttle the mission, in accordance with agreements between the Spanish and Portuguese to share the colonized lands.
