The CABCL women’s team
Women's rugby has a history dating back to the late 19th century, with the first matches taking place in England and New Zealand. In France, the French Rugby Federation officially recognised women's rugby in 1989. The first Women's World Cup, organised in 1991, marked a decisive turning point for rugbywomen. Brive's passion for the oval ball is well known, and the women's section was created in 2012, much to the delight of our Gaillardes. And what a team they are!
Origins of the CABCL women's section
The CABCL Women's Section was created in 2012 on the initiative of local players.
Since 2014, they have been Limousin champions, South-West sector champions and also French champions.
They played in the Fédérale 2 for 6 seasons before moving up to the Fédérale 1 in 2018.
French Fédérale 1 champions in 2023
On 10 June 2023, under the coaching of Philippe Gilibert, Serge Nirelli and Romain Cabanero, our women's team won the French Fédérale 1 title with an 18-6 victory over Tarbes. The reserve team won the Bouclier du Terroir. A year full of successes for our Gaillardes!
The 2024 / 2025 Season
For the past two seasons, CABCL's women have been playing in Élite 2, the second highest level of French women's rugby. This division comprises a single pool of 10 clubs, with a 20-day round-robin qualifying phase. The team is coached by Romain Cabanero, manager of the women's department and coach of the forwards, Fabrice Pêcher for the three-quarters, Sébastien Faurel for the footwork, and Caroline Marques, physical trainer.
With a squad of 70 players, the club also fields a reserve XV team in Fédérale 2, comprising three pools of 8 teams each. This team is coached by Fabrice Daubec for the forwards and Patrick Vedrenne for the three-quarters.
