The Correze Causse Lake
15 minutes from Brive, in a green setting in the Couze valley, there's a lake... born some forty years ago from the desire of local councillors to make it a tourist attraction. With its 200 hectares of landscaped land (100 hectares of water and 100 hectares of natural areas), the Causse Lake site has become the identity card of our region and naturally features in our top 14 places to visit.
It's also an ideal base camp for water and land sports, a peaceful spot to recharge your batteries and a popular bathing spot for locals and visitors alike.
The Causse Lake : fun and gaillard destination !
- Take part in nature sports activities at THE spot in the destination: this is the Nouvelle-Aquitaine East-Coast!
- Use the libeo shuttles in summer and avoid taking your car
- Participate in summer activities: shows and guinguettes, and sample the local products at the local farmers' market. It makes you want to eat !
- Want to extend the pleasure? There's plenty of accommodation around the lake.
- And if you want to strengthen your calves, hire a bike and take one of the many circuits on offer (mountain bike or hybrid bike).
Once upon a time ... a mill
Its history dates back to 1700, when it is mentioned under the name of Moulin de la Mothe. It was jointly owned until 1758, when it became the sole property of the Lord of Lissac.
Although its original purpose was to grind grain, the mill successively housed a paper mill around 1825, then a spinning mill and finally a vinegar factory.
At the beginning of the last century, it returned to its original function as a flour mill. It then became a sawmill and finally a walnut oil factory. The millstones stopped turning for good in the early 1960s.
A few years after the lake was impounded in the mid-1970s, a wing of the building in a very poor state of repair was destroyed and the millstones dismantled. However, they can still be seen in an orchard beside the beach.
In the 1990s, the building was converted into a restaurant. On the first floor, the House of Water and Fishing (Water and Fishing Centre), a departmental branch, welcomes you throughout the year for courses and information.
An Eldorado for outdoor sports and leisure
This water sports centre is our seaside resort. A whole host of water-based activities are on offer: swimming, sailing, pedal boats, not forgettingrowing, paddling and canoeing....
What's more, the area around the lake, with its rolling countryside and multitude of footpaths, is an ideal playground for hikers, mountain bikers and trail runners.
The Causse Lake has also been approved to host French and foreign delegations preparing their teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games 2024!
Practical information
Where can I park at Causse Lake?
There are several car parks around the lake. To name the main ones, with direct access to the beach, we recommend the Moulin car park, below the lake towards the charming little village of Soulier.
The second car park is at Les Peupliers, part of which is equipped for campervans. First lodge with a breathtaking view of the lake!
For water sports activities, head for the campsite!
And for fishing, there are two options: the car park next to the multi-purpose hall in Saint-Cernin-de-Larche or the Moulin car park, just a stone's throw from the House of Water and Fishing.
How do I get to Lac du Causse without a car?

Looking for sanitary facilities?
Dry toilets are available on the beach, next to the Nautical Base and near Port-Couzage (opposite the Base). You'll also find them at the first-aid post on Peupliers beach.
Monitoring the bathing area and water quality
The bathing area is supervised every day during the summer holidays from 11am to 19pm by lifeguards.
The water is checked regularly to ensure its quality and guarantee safe bathing.
