Fun. There's no doubt about it, "fun" is the word that best defines all that the Pays de Brive playground has to offer trail and running enthusiasts!

Whether you're a keen runner or a more occasional runner, and you're desperate to get away from tarmac, there's nothing here for you. Well, here it's easy to stay away from tarmac roads. It's true that in Corrèze, trail running doesn't take place at altitude, but the terrain does lend itself to long outings with a fair amount of accumulated ascent.

Make the Brive region the open-air arena for your "nature" running outings and discover an authentic running area with a variety of small hills and beautiful landscapes that will win you over!

Brive Trail Station, between Causse and Vézère

This trail station complements the existing range of mountain bike circuits, orienteering courses and hiking trails on the Causse Corrézien and the Saillant.

Trail enthusiasts will love the variety of routes, both in terms of distance and altitude difference.

Which trail to choose?

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned trail runner, our playground around Brive offers you every option.

Criteria to bear in mind:

  • the distance of the trail: if you're used to doing a 10 km race, avoid trails longer than 14 km. For the more experienced, a 50 km circuit is perfectly feasible. The important thing is not to try to do more than you're capable of, or you risk losing all motivation.
  • The profile of the terrain: beginners will want to avoid stony, rocky paths, preferring ground such as mud, sand or meadows. It's also important to look at the gradient.

What equipment do I need for trail running?

  • Trail running shoes, as comfortable as possible with non-slip soles.
  • GPS watch, to record your training and keep track of the distance and altitude difference covered.
  • Trail bag, or trail belt, to carry water, supplies and a mobile phone so you can call for help in an emergency.
  • Rain jacket, to protect you from changing conditions in the great outdoors.
  • Survival blanket and support bandage, in case of emergency or accident.

This equipment is often compulsory for starting a trail competition. So it makes sense to practise carrying it with you regularly, and to learn how to use it.
