Barrage du Saillant: a bold and responsible site!

  1. Dam nestling in the heart of a Natura 2000 area
  2. Backpack and hiking boots are our credo! This industrial heritage site is at the crossroads of several existing hiking trails (GR 46, GRP des gorges de la Vézère, future Voie verte, etc.).
  3. And for shorter walks, there are 2 footpaths along the banks of the Vézère, where you can get close to the hydroelectric plant and dam and discover the history of the site and its environmental riches.
  4. The Pays d'Art et d'Histoire Vézère Ardoise organises occasional guided tours during the summer months.

Bon plan On the salmon trail

View of the salmon jump at the Saillant dam

Where the Vézère gorges end in a final waterfall, hydroelectric engineers couldn't resist building a dam in 1930. To admire it at its best, take the path that leads to the lookout point. From up there, you have a bird's eye view of the structure and the imposing rock that dominates it. It has been named the "salmon jump" in honour of the salmon of the Correze region who, at this point, did not hesitate to jump out of the water to cross the obstacle separating them from their breeding grounds. Along the way, you'll discover all about the history of salmon in Corrèze.
