Our local alcoholic beverages are rooted in history... particularly wine.

Our history linked to vineyards

Wine has been produced and consumed in our region since the Middle Ages and even as far back as antiquity . This beverage played a huge part in the daily lives of its inhabitants. Our region has become famous for its high quality wines, such as those from Allassac, Vignols, Vertougit (Voutezac), Sajueix, etc.

This production, which was initially managed by the ecclesiastics, the lords and then the bourgeoisie, continued to develop until it reached its golden age in the 19th century. In 1840, 16,735 hectares of vines were planted in Correze, ensuring the health of the region's economy.

Unfortunately, from 1876 onwards, this flourishing activity gradually declined with the appearance of phylloxera. This aphid, a veritable scourge for vines, decimated almost all our vineyards. In less than 10 years, phylloxera destroyed 3,409 hectares and damaged 1,204 hectares, almost all of our production. An unprecedented social and economic crisis ensued as the Corrèze vineyards disappeared...

However, our ancestors were already hardy souls, so they were able to bounce back by converting to farming, leading to the birth of a new type of production with market gardening, apples and livestock.

Some have continued to make wine, but on a smaller scale. These small producers have carried our winegrowing heritage at arm's length. But over the last few years, some of them have taken up the torch. From the 2000s onwards, we have witnessed the rebirth of our beloved Corrèze vineyards.
