BRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE
Teheran 1978: eight-year-old Marjane dreams of the future as a prophet saving the world. Pampered by her modern, cultured parents, and particularly close to her grandmother, she follows with exaltation the events leading up to the revolution and the fall of the Shah?s regime. The establishment of the Islamic Republic ushered in the era of the “revolution commissioners”, who controlled dress and behavior. Marjane, who has to wear the veil, now dreams of being a revolutionary. Soon, the war against Iraq leads to bombings, deprivation and the disappearance of loved ones. Domestic repression becomes more severe every day. In this increasingly difficult context, her sharp tongue and rebellious stance became problematic. Her parents decide to send her to Austria to protect her.
