Boudu, a homeless man in despair after losing his dog, throws himself into the Seine. Edouard Lestingois witnesses the tragedy from his bookshop and rushes to save the unfortunate man. Not having the heart to send him back to the streets, he takes Boudu into his home. But Boudu doesn’t seem to want to abide by the rules of the house, and especially not those of propriety and politeness! He starts to become a nuisance for the bookseller, his wife and their maid, who wonder what they’re going to do with this oddball who’s got a mind of his own.
