The men's Tour de France 2024 will make a brief stopover in Corrèze this summer.
At Gaillards, we don't leave anyone by the wayside, even those who have never heard of the Tour de France... So, in a few words, it's one of the major and oldest road cycling competitions.
Teams of riders cover 3,500 km across France and its European neighbours over more than twenty days in July.
It's a stage race, with sessions ranging from 10 km (time trials) to 200 km at an average speed of 25 km/h, even on mountain roads that we couldn't climb on foot...
The best overall time wears the Yellow Jersey, the best climber the White Jersey with Red Dots, the best sprinter the Green Jersey...
The Tour de France is also about discovering magnificent landscapes, an event with rituals, dramas and exploits...
Launched in Florence, Italy, on 29 June, the 111th edition will finish in Nice on 21 July... Crossing France, of course, including the Alps and the Pyrenees. The media coverage is unmissable, so you should be able to pick up information easily... but the totally reliable source is the Official Site of the Tour de France
So this year, the Tour is not passing through Corrèze...
But the 11th stage will take place just a few pedal laps away from our native land, in Creuse and Cantal!
Stage 11, 10 July 2024 :
Evaux-Les-Bains>Le Lioran
211 km with lots of mountain passes!
You can watch the race on TV, but you can also get completely into the mood by taking part (at your own pace) in routes through our beautiful region... Plan cool morning rides in proportion to each day's stage and discover the richness and diversity of our landscapes... To spice things up and create 'local' mountain stages, imagine some mountain bike sessions!
There are a number of facilities in the area that sell cycling equipment... but you can also hire equipment for mountain biking.
Already signposted routes and 100% local advice and hire resources: it's here!
To prepare for this final time trial stage, start improving your time now... It's a simple exercise, until 21 July: regularly complete 17 laps of Lac du Causse to cover the 40 km of the final event of this 2024 edition!
