Spending a Sunday in Objat

Publié le 18 April 2025 par su_laetis

On the programme this Sunday: market, picnic, siesta and swimming. And there's no better place to do it than Objat!

Last Sunday, with my friend, the sun was out and we wanted to have a picnic and get some fresh air. A destination came to mind: Objat, a town 20 minutes from Brive. So there was no need to leave too early!

Objat market

After spending a week cooped up at work, this is a welcome day to get some fresh air. We headed for the market in Objat, a must for buying 100% local produce and making sure we had plenty to eat.

Under the covered market and in the village, we make our first purchases for the picnic aperitif: walnut tapenade, pâté, figs stuffed with foie gras, a little smoked duck breast. And don't forget the bread! It's still warm, so how can you resist eating it straight away?

Continue shopping in catering mode, it's Sunday, we don't want to complicate things, and there's plenty of choice!

Picnic in Objat

Our last task before the picnic was to find a spot with a bit of shade and peace and quiet.

We've made up our minds: the coolness of the lake just next to the market, a 2-minute walk away, and the shade of the surrounding trees make it the perfect spot for lunch. What's more, you don't even need to take the car! If you fancy a little siesta or a digestive stroll, the place is ideal. So off we go to the Espace Loisirs Jacques Lagrave. The Municipal Park, on the banks of the river, may also be another option.

The EcoPiscine in Objat

We hadn't planned to do this at the start, but as we passed the EcoPiscine, we felt like cooling off. Luckily we had swimming costumes in the car, just in case... There's a large outdoor swimming pool and an indoor pool. There are also water games for the whole family. After trying out the EcoPiscine for the first time, we've decided to come back and try out the Nordic pool in the middle of winter (water heated to 29°C) and enjoy the relaxation area with sauna and hammam.

Advice from a gaillarde

Parking

On Sunday mornings, the town centre is closed to traffic and stalls take over the space. So you can wander the streets in complete safety. We recommend that you park in the large car park on Place Jean-Lagarde when you arrive. You'll find that you're just a stone's throw from the market and the town centre, and close to the lake and the EcoPiscine.

Don't forget to bring

  • A large tablecloth for picnics and naps
  • Cutlery and serviettes, including a real knife for making sandwiches
  • Hats, caps and sunglasses
  • Swimwear and towels
  • Camera

Summary of our Sunday in the green:

We had :

  • enjoyed ourselves
  • rested
  • refreshed
  • relaxed
  • and we're back in great shape to start a new week. In short, we're all rejuvenated! 💪
