Publié le 18 April 2025 par su_laetis

Discover our Cabinet of curiosities in the Corrèze and more particularly around Brive-La-Gaillarde. A selection of places that are out of the ordinary. So make the most of a sunny weekend and organise yourself a nice outing!

Travassac and its slate quarries

From the 17th to the 20th century, more than two hundred workers came to the slate quarry every day. As a result, the village gradually grew up around the site until it welcomed its first inhabitants. The first houses are easily recognisable, as they were made of blue-black slate stone. A must-see site in the Corrèze and the only one of its kind in Europe: the Travassac pans. These are trenches bordered by quarzite walls.

Voutezac, from vines to bouquets

Situated on the ancient pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela, Voutezac is one of those charming villages that make up our Gaillard heritage! Here you'll discover the Saillant bridge, built by the monks in the 13th century to make it easier to transport wine. You'll be able to taste the Coteaux du Saillant wines. The Saillant chapel also features 6 magnificent stained-glass windows, created by the famous painter Marc CHAGALL at the request of the de Lasteyrie du Saillant family.

Donzenac and its Saint Jean-Baptiste statue

This town is a true vestige of the Middle Ages. Find out why this little village is known as the "Key to the Portal of the South", with its strange keyhole shape. You can admire three statues, two women and a man (Saint John the Baptist). If you stroll through the upper part of Donzenac, you'll see some real architectural masterpieces, with houses dating back to the 13th century.

Brive and its Parc des Perrières

Overlooking Brive, this park covers more than thirteen hectares and offers visitors the chance to take a leisurely stroll through undergrowth and meadows. There's an orienteering course, a disc-golf course and a hiking trail. It's also a place steeped in history, with a plaque commemorating the sacrifice of four men shot by the Germans on 17 July 1944.

Don't worry! We've still got some great places for you to discover - the region is full of them! Our guys are madly in love with them, and you'll soon see why.
