24th World Military Triathlon Championships at Lac du Causse

A major first in France and for the town of Brive-La-Gaillarde, the 24th World Military Triathlon Championships will be held at Lac du Causse on 7 and 8 May 2023. The expertise of the Corrèze region has been recognised for hosting this event, organised for the first time on French soil. Over the years, Lac du Causse has become the venue for a number of major sporting events, making it one of the sites offered to French and foreign delegations to prepare their teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!

This international sporting event brings together 300 athletes representing 22 nations and takes place in Brive with the support of the Brive Defence Base and the 126th Infantry Regiment.

Working closely with the town of Brive and the French Triathlon Federation, 200 staff, markers, volunteers, officials and health personnel are working with the armed forces and the Gendarmerie Nationale to ensure that this international event is a success.

World Triathlon Championship programme

  • Saturday 6 May at 6.45pm: Opening ceremony in Brive (Brune barracks) open to the general public, with a parade of delegations from the barracks to the town hall.
  • Sunday 7 May:
    - 8am: Start of the Senior Women's race
    - 11am: Start of the Senior Men's race
    - 2pm: Start of the Elite Women's race
    - 5pm: Start of the Elite Men's race
  • Monday 8 May :
    - 8am: Senior mixed relay
    - 10.30am: Elite mixed relay
    - 1.15pm: Regional S
    - 3.30pm: Regional XS
    - 5.30pm: Awards ceremony for regional events
    - 6pm: World Awards Ceremony
    - 19h00: Closing ceremony of the 24th World Championships

How do I get to Lac du Causse during the military championships?

As part of an eco-responsible approach, cars will not be allowed on the competition site. A fleet of 12 buses will be deployed to shuttle people between the town and Lac du Causse. Visitors will have no choice but to use the shuttle buses to get to Lac du Causse on 7 and 8 May.

Stops served:

  • Carrefour car park
  • Deshors car park, rue Alfred-Deshors
  • Lac du Causse, in the shopkeepers' village above the water sports centre.

Timetable:

  • Outward journey: 7am to 3pm
  • Return: 10am to 8pm
  • The interval between two shuttles is 30 minutes.
  • There is a 15-minute delay between the Carrefour stop and the Parking Deshors stop.

Notice: temporary road closures on 7 and 8 May around Lac du Causse

In accordance with order no. DAV 019789 on temporary traffic regulations for 18 April 2023 :

  • The direction of traffic from 7.45 am to 6.30 pm on Sunday and from 7.45 am to 5 pm on Monday will always be in the direction of the race when the roads are open (see flyer to download).

  • Road opening and closing times:
    - Sunday 7 May: roads open from 9.30am to 10.45am, from 12.30pm to 1.45pm and from 3.30pm to 4.45pm. Roads closed from 7.45am to 9.30am, from 10.45am to 12.30pm, from 1.45pm to 3.30pm and from 3.30pm to 4.45pm.

    - Monday 8 May: roads open from 9.30am to 10.15am, from 11.30am to 1pm and from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. Roads closed from 7.45am to 9.30am, 10.15am to 11.30am, 1pm to 2.30pm and 3.15pm to 5pm.
