Get away from it all and marvel at the two shows on offer by l'Empreinte during the festive season in Brive-La-Gaillarde.

The seasons

In front of a hypnotic wall of projected petals, the dancers of Malandain Ballet Biarritz launch into the famous Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, and the lesser-known works by the composer Antonio Guido, a contemporary of Vivaldi. Bringing them together in a single programme was a daring gamble that Thierry Malandain takes up brilliantly, with the purity and virtuosity that characterise his ballet. From light portés to whirling rounds influenced by Basque folklore, the director of the CCN Biarritz captures both the light-heartedness of the score and its popular spirit.

The cyclical tableaux explore elegant, poised Baroque dance as much as more graphic, contemporary interludes, in which the dancers' arms are extended by long, dark winged fabrics. Thierry Malandain has long been preoccupied with the relationship between man and nature, and here he pursues his research without being blind to the dangers that lurk. When the petals turn a sombre black, the possibility opens up that the seasons are no longer truly round. A sublime ballet, sharp and intoxicating.

NUYE

Six acrobats, dancers and dancers tame each other with a strange mobile apparatus. All the magic and poetry of the great Catalan collective.

The "eia " circus company came up with NUYE, "we" in Sardinian, just after the periods of confinement, with the desire to rediscover the meeting, the collective body and the impetus of living together.

Hand-to-hand acrobatics and acrobatics have always been their trademark, but here they have spiced things up with a new kind of partner: a high, modular wall, sometimes even wobbly, pierced with holes and slots. This shifts and widens the spaces of friction between the bodies of the six acrobats, whose male-female combinations, contrary to the expectations of acrobatics, also redefine the possibilities of the couple.

From muscular shoulder thrusts to fragile balances, from human tricks to gentle, sensitive contact, this circus sends out twirling magic as much as it reminds us of our infinite need for solidarity, trust and otherness.
